Meet Kurt

I am Kurt Breitenstein AKA K9 Kurt, pet nutritionist, animal naturalist. My story begins as a 10 year old child who realized he loves animals. My German neighbor Mr. Knollman was the inspiration for what I am doing today. It all started by him explaining to me that the kibbles we all feed our dogs was terrible and the root cause of 98% of what ails them. He explained the science of alkalinity and acidity. He explained how dogs are more acidic creatures than humans, who are more alkaline for more optimum health. So at ten years old, I totally understood what he was conveying to me, it just made sense. That day we made his dogs food, all raw ground beef, veggies we picked from his garden, and fruit from his fruit trees. His dogs were over 20 YEARS OLD, one of them being 28 years old. He gave them bones after their meal, it was amazing!

Today the pet food industry is atrocious. $160,000,000,000 globally, $70,000,000,000 in the United States on pet food annually. The pet food industry works hand in hand with most veterinarians to manage allergies, stressors, and disease being produced and marketed with false claims and horrible results (dogs living in the United States average 10-13 years of life, 5 years less than 50 years ago on average).

In 2010 I bought an old medical bus and wrapped it. I called it my Mobile Pet Apothecary. I spent the next 10 years off and on travelling to all parts of the United States, setting up my pop up tent at festivals, community pools, fairs, and campgrounds preaching RAW, WHOLE foods for your pets. During that journey I created a dietary program that worked! I was overwhelmed with the successes pet owners were having after transitioning their cats and dogs from kibbles to raw whole foods.

In 2014 I went back to school and got certified as a Pet Nutritionist. In 2024 I opened a dog daycare/kennel called Doggyworld Resort. In March of 2026 we launched the K9 Kurt podcast.

As a K9 nutritionist, my goal is to help dog owners better understand their dog’s biological needs and how to support them through balanced, species-appropriate nutrition. Through personalized consultations, I work with you to evaluate your dog’s current diet, lifestyle, and health goals to create a plan that promotes optimal wellness.

When dogs are nourished properly, they have the opportunity to live longer, healthier, and more vibrant lives.
